About Moraira...
Originally Moraira was an old Spanish fishing village on the Costa Blanca. Over the past decade Moraira has become a luxury tourist destination. Meanwhile, Moraira has become part of Teulada municipality, which lies approx. 6 km inland and is located between Javea and Denia in the north and Calpe to the south.
It´s about 75km from the Alicante airport and 110 km from Valencia airport. Moraira is a coastal resort and is known for its tranquility, its beautiful fishing port and its marina, two beautiful sandy beaches, the rocky coastline and the beautiful bays. With an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and 320 sunny days a year, Moraira is a perfect holiday destination on the Costa Blanca all year round.
Beaches of Moraira.
Moraira has two beautiful sandy beaches, L'Ampolla and Playa del Portet. Furthermore you'll find 8km of rocky coastline. Along the coast towards the town of Calp, you will find nice beaches made up out of fine sand and crystal clear water as well as small bays like L'Andragó, Punta Estrella, Cap Blanc and La Cala. L'Ampolla however is the most famous beach. It's wide and deep and consists of silky-smooth sand. During the season the adjecent bar/restaurant provides anything your eyes, throat and stomach desire.
Sightseeing in Moraira
Besides the beautiful rocky and sandy beaches you can also find several places that are worth a visit.
Castillo de Moraira. This fortress stands on a rocky hill at the Ampolla beach and you simply can't miss it. It was built in the 18th century to protect the town against attacks by Berber pirates. It is built in an unusual form, known as pezua de buey (ox hoof) because of the semicircular southern outside wall and the straight northern outside wall.
Church Mare de Due dels Desemparats. This church was built between 1875 and 1878 and is located in the center of Moraira. The church has a rectangular shape and a modest interior, except for the portrait of the Virgen de los Desamparados and two beautiful mosaics.
Torre de Vigilancia del Cap d´Or. This tower stands at the highest point of the cape Cap d'Or, on the edge of the rocky coastline. The tower has no door. To climb the tower a rope ladder was let down from the top. There were also two cannons on top of the tower. This all to protect the port of Moraira against attacks of Berber pirates.
Sports and activities in Moraira. For sports enthusiasts there is plenty to do in Moraira and surroundings, you can play golf, tennis, go horse riding, scuba diving at one of the dive centers, water sports, jet ski, karting, squash and more.
There are also several amusement parks not far from Moraira, like Terra Mitica, the first theme park in Spain. This amusement park is divided into five areas, five lost civilizations of antiquity and the rides take you back to the myths and legends of these ancient cultures.
Aqualandia on the other hand is a huge water park where children of all ages can enjoy a great day in the many pools, slides, waterfalls etc.
Mundomar and Terra Natura give you a day full of beautiful, exotic animals and different shows.
